Sade Sati is often misunderstood among people. In one’s life there could be three cycles of sade sati, and sub-cycles of Panoti or Dhaiya. Saturn spends two and a half years in each sign. Whenever Saturn enters the 12th, 1st house, and 2nd house from the natal Moon, it is said to have started the period of Sade-Sati i.e 7 and 1/2 years because Saturn will spend two and half years in each house which will be seven and half years in total.

Traditionally, sade-sati is not considered good by many when Saturn is in the 6th, 8th, or 12th house. However, if Saturn is functional benefic planet then it will not cause harm in any of the houses. At the same time there are also certain misinterpretations attached with the theory. In sade sati, good or bad experiences majorly depend on the functional nature of Saturn with reference to the ascendant. If Saturn is a functional benefic, it does not produce severe results, but its capacity to produce good results will be limited due to weakness attained by transiting the twelfth house. Sub-periods of planets and strength of the planets is also important to decide the events of sade sati period.
Further, this is also important to note that Saturn works as a functional benefic planet for Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittrius, Capricorn & Aquarius ascendants. Therefore, sade sati will not be applicable completely for these ascendants. However, Saturn is a functional malefic planet for Virgo, Cancer and Pisces ascendants and they may have to bear the mal-effects, only after analyzing the ascendant, of transiting Saturn during the sade sati.

Mal-effects during Sade Sati Period

A person may suffer from lack of peace, challenges from family, financial problems, loss of fortune, unhappy work environment, status, or reputation, sudden conflicts with colleagues, hidden enemies and disputes when Saturn is transiting the 12th house.
